I use Turmeric a lot in my curry cooking. Fresh turmeric taste good!

I planted 2 turmerics that I bought at wet market. It has produce beautiful light yellow flower.

I'm not sure the purpose of this flower since it does not have any smell. Never seen any insect on them too! The flower last long! more than 2 weeks!

banana tree

This is my first attempt with banana tree. It has grow big and few sucker plant have emerged. All of them are welcomed!

Banana tree is very useful. All the parts of the plant is beneficial to humankind. The leaves are used by us for eating ( like plate), for smoking fish wrap, the fruits are full of usage and not forgetting the tender stem which are cooked and full of nutrition!

Indians ties banana trees on the entrance during wedding to symbolize continuous flow of children and grandchildren to newly married couple. It's considered as auspicious plant too!

 

Seeds

What gardeners are happy about besides healthy plants? I would say receiving free plants or seeds!

I'm happy to receive free seeds from Normala . She has beautiful garden at her place!

GBBD - APRIL 2016

It's really very hot here! Temperature is reaching 38C . This is really strange as we usually have average hot weather of 35C only.

Schools are closed at some area. Extra co-curricular activities are stopped in most of the schools due to this hot weather. I hope El-Nino season will pass soon!

The only cheerful living entity shall be the flowering plants! Their are flowering profusely now!

 The orange hibiscus have started the day! The bud is in opening process. I will miss the flowers by the time I come back home in the evening!

This was taken about 6.40am. Look at how bright is the surrounding!

I do not know the name of this plant but the white flowers have bloom all over the shrub!

Tamil New Year 2016

Today marked the Tamil New Year for 2016!

The Tamil New Year follows the vernal equinox and generally falls on 14 April of the Gregorian year. 14 April marks the first day of the traditional Tamil calendar .

Usually we will have prayers at home and temple and visit relatives! A big vegetarian feast too! ;)

But it's working day today here.....so we celebrate in small scale ;)

curry leaves

Curry leaves are a must in Indian kitchen. We use them in making curries, chutney, fries etc! The aroma of stir frying the curry leaves will definitely increase the appetite!

The big curry leave plant is the mother plant. It has produce many little plants around this area. All of them are welcomed to the garden!

I have problem with curry plant whereby the leaves are easily get attacked by black small caterpillar and rust leaves too.

Any idea how to eliminate rust on the leaves?

Petola

Petola is learning to climb. They are located at the end of the garden area. Not so good soil here. I need to add compost to rich the soil.

 The male and female flowers have started blooming.

Petola do have beautiful yellow flowers which bloom at night! I guess they taste sweet as i saw many ants on the flowers!
