Mango

The Mango tree has start to produce flower for the 2nd time. This time around not much flowers and I'm not sure if the Flowers will end up with good fruits since the flowers does not look so excellent. Last year we saw huge and long mangoes to harvest but lets see how this year will be....

It's very hot weather here with no rain at all. Everything is drying up.

The Mango tree seems to grow well outside my house. It's more that my height now. It's fun to see how a seed germinate and grow to become a big tree!

From Seed!

I have a sweet surprise long time back but keep hold until today to tell you all.

I use to eat mangoes and throw the seeds into my garden and amazingly one of the seed germinated! It looks very fragile at first that i thought it won't make it but somehow it made to this height!  This is my mango plant from seed! I don't remember the variety as i have thrown a few of them!

I planted it outside my house and it seems to enjoy this place! I never planted fruit plants from seeds all this while. All the plant was bought from nursery.

Gone???

The other day i tied all my mangoes in the paper. It was big and but haven't ripe. I was worried about pest. I never thought about monkeys as i thought they have left my garden alone. It's been 2 months since i saw them.

Unfortunately they came after so long and took all my 6-7 big mangoes! Damn! Every time i have big vision to my garden, here comes the monkeys to spoilt everything!

May be as last option i need to have dog to chase them!!

I can see few mangoes as of now. But usually the fruits will drop down and only 2-3 will grow to mature.

I found something new on the word Mango!

"The English word "mango" originated from Tamil or Malayalam word "Maangai".The word's first recorded attestation in a European language was a text by Ludovico di Varthema in Italian in 1510, as manga; the first recorded occurrences in languages such as French and post-classical Latin appear to be translations from this Italian text. The origin of the "-o" ending in English is unclear"


As for me i start to google about Mango because i saw inflorescence on my Mango tree! After doing some reading this is what i found:

"The flowers are produced in terminal panicles 10–40 cm (3.9–16 in) long; each flower is small and white with five petals 5–10 mm (0.20–0.39 in) long, with a mild sweet odor suggestive of lily of the valley. The fruit takes three to six months to ripen."


3-6 months to ripen? Ghee...that's a long wait.! I do not know the cultiver of mine but i hope it will be so sweet like Alphonso Mango! hahhahaa....
