Bananas from the garden to the kitchen

Finally the bananas were harvested last Sunday! They were all still green when we chop the whole bunch but now they have slowly ripening. Turning yellow. I can smell bananas is the kitchen.

 

The trunk was chopped and the inner soft stem was cooked too! They are really juicy and at the best state! 

As usual bananas are shared between friends and neighbours!

Currently I have 5 more green bananas bunches! It will ripe very soon. I'm thinking of banana cake and some traditional dessert like "cekodok" and "lepat pisang"! What else to be made? May be some banana shake!

It's really very useful to have banana tree at home!

banana fruiting - another season

I'm getting very excited with banana tree! This plantain continue to produce little babies and they grow up to produce more bananas!

 This time around 2 trees have produced fruits! There is a gap of 3 weeks I think.... Therefore they won't ripe at the same time!

The banana flowers have been chopped and cooked. We need to chop the flowers so that the tree will concentrate the energy in producing plump fruits!

I hope they grow plump and sweet like the previous plant! Having banana tree at home is so useful!

Finally we harvested a big bunch of bananas! There were so many bananas! I shared them with family, relatives, friends and neighbours!

These are balance bananas after sharing with the neighbours!

It's layered in 3 layers!

The banana stocks are ripening naturally! I can smell bananas once enter the kitchen area!

 The trunk was chopped down on weekend and the tender part are cooked! I share the stem with family!

Now I have dozens of bananas in fridge. Waiting to be cooked or baked or even eaten raw!

The banana tree is very high. I wonder why it became like coconut tree! The bunch is hanging down. It's very heavy and I wonder how the tree is coping with the weight! 

This is the bottom view! The fruits looked like fully filled but the ripening process haven't completed! No indication of yellow.

If all goes well I will have many fruits to be harvested and given to family and friends!

Banana getting fatter

It's a long wait for banana to ripen. I'm waiting without patient actually!

I have been thinking what kind of dessert I can make with the bananas! It's a long list actually!

Gardening do really teach us a lot of lessons in life! The plants teach us to slow down, value of patient, disappointment at time and happy moment at other time!

Banana tree

Banana planting need a lot of cleaning section! This is the area where I grow my banana. It all started with single plantlet. Now I have few of them. On and off we need to tidy this place. Chop the leaves, collect the dry bark, etc

Can you see the banana on top of the tree? The plant grow very tall. I need to use ladder to chop the banana flower and later the fruits! If all goes well, I shall harvest bananas at the end of next month!  

That's my calculation. Maybe it will take longer or shorter. I don't really keep track of the timing. So I only has a rough estimation with me!

I chop some of the leaves for Ponggal - Hindu harvest festival last month. So they look tidy now. We ate our lunch on banana leaves! The rice have very authentic taste on banana leaves!

Banana - again!

This is second banana tree fruits. The first plant's banana was harvested. Enough to share with family and friends. The trunk was chopped and shared too! Such a useful plant!

Another view! I'm not sure but this type of banana tend to grow huge and tall! 

The banana flowers have be harvested last week. Cooked and eaten. I forgot to take the photo!

I have 3 tall banana trees and 2 plantlets.

Growing bananas are really good! All parts are useful and most of them can be eaten! The trunk, flowers and fruits are edible. The leaves are trademark of Indian food! We eat on banana leaves! It serve as a plate of special occasion especially!

Finally the Bananas!

Above is my first banana harvest! There were 2 bunches on single tree! It's really ridiculous right!

I decided to use a ladder to chop down the bunches. The tree is still standing high. I shall chop the tree in few weeks. The tender trunk shall be taken and cooked as Indian style.

The main bunch has bigger fruit.

The sub bunch has a lot of fruits in small size!

I tasted one yesterday out of curiosity . It's not fully ripe yet but has sweet taste!

There are a lot of bananas! We share them with neighbours and family!

I have to think of recipes to use all the bananas once they ripe..... Banana cake, Malaysian dessert cengkodok, puding, what else?

Banana fruit

I feel it takes ages for Banana to mature. I'm waiting patiently for the fruits to mature.

The banana plant is tall. At a mean time, I'm thinking on how to bring down the fruit! May be ladder is good choice! I'm so ambitious I guess! hahaha...

If you have banana plant, how long it takes to ripe? How you bring down the matured fruit?

Finally I manage to take a photo of closer look of the banana fruit. There were so many leaves blocking the fruits previously. I chop down some of the leaves.

This is suppose to be small size banana or called "pisang emas" in Malay. They taste sweet and can be made dessert called "kuih cekodok". This dessert is made from flour, bananas and salt. Just mix and fry them. It's palatable dessert during tea break!

Apart from that,  it's also suitable to make cake as it has natural sweet taste! I just can't wait for the fruit to ripe!

Banana fruit progress

Banana tree fruit progress is very slow. I wonder how farmers wait to harvest their banana fruits! It's such a long wait! However a bite on the fruit might console all the wait!

The tree is so tall! I could not get the correct angle photos due to the height and the leaves bloacking with each others!

The fruits are small at the moment. It's green in colour. The flower at the bottom has been plucked and cooked! Usually we need to cut the flower so that the tree will put the energy on the fruit production!

Let me see if I could get better photos in a few weeks time when the fruit grow a bit bigger!

Banana tree have started to colonize in my garden. I have 4 plants in total. 

The mother plant have grown so huge! 

It has produce the first banana flower!

Close up photo of the fruit. If everything goes I will harvest banana in 2 months from my home garden! It's a long wait but it's worth all the care on them!

This is my first attempt with banana tree. It has grow big and few sucker plant have emerged. All of them are welcomed!

Banana tree is very useful. All the parts of the plant is beneficial to humankind. The leaves are used by us for eating ( like plate), for smoking fish wrap, the fruits are full of usage and not forgetting the tender stem which are cooked and full of nutrition!

Indians ties banana trees on the entrance during wedding to symbolize continuous flow of children and grandchildren to newly married couple. It's considered as auspicious plant too!
