Banana tree

Banana planting need a lot of cleaning section! This is the area where I grow my banana. It all started with single plantlet. Now I have few of them. On and off we need to tidy this place. Chop the leaves, collect the dry bark, etc

Can you see the banana on top of the tree? The plant grow very tall. I need to use ladder to chop the banana flower and later the fruits! If all goes well, I shall harvest bananas at the end of next month!  

That's my calculation. Maybe it will take longer or shorter. I don't really keep track of the timing. So I only has a rough estimation with me!

I chop some of the leaves for Ponggal - Hindu harvest festival last month. So they look tidy now. We ate our lunch on banana leaves! The rice have very authentic taste on banana leaves!

GBBD - February 2017

It's hot now in Malaysia. I can't see or feel a raindrop! The monsoon has ended! 

That indicates - watering has to be done daily without fail! It's a warning indication for me. Past 2 months I have passed all my watering work to mother nature! Now I have to take this task back! 

Hot weather indicate more pest in the garden! Ants are considered as pest too in my garden. They help to carry white powdery mildew eggs! I can see ants everywhere!  

Costus flowers are favorite of the ants! 

Their red flower really bring cheery mood to my front door!

Mussaenda in yellow! They keep flowering non-stop!

Insect have chewed the petals! The bite do look like a heart shape ! May be the insect knows Valentine's Day is around the corner? So she or he expressing to their partner? ;) I think it's a beetle! I found the culprit on the above photo!

The cape honeysuckle is having a show now!

My favorite yellow hibiscus is blooming again!

They attract a lot of ants!

I took these photos in the evening. By then the red hibiscus have drop down!

Marigold at the backyard always bring colour to the green area!

The flowering plants are back into action! I guess they know February is a month to show love!

Mulberries hanging around!

Last month I trim down the mulberry plants! Here is the rewards of the trimming section. I can see many berries hanging around!

I shall prepare juice with the berries since they go rotten very fast once plucked from the bush! They are packed with high content of vitamin C!

Pineapple plant

I have 3 pineapple plants in my garden. One is planted under the sun.

The below 2 were growing for long time under the lemon & mango trees shade. I think about 4 - 5 years. No fruits. I know I have planted them in wrong position. The plant won't be able to produce fruits here. It won't grow to fullest too! I had a deep thinking yesterday. Finally I made a risk. I uprooted them and replanted them under the sun.

I'm not sure if it will survive. Have anyone uprooted pineapple plant before? Their roots are very shallow. So i just assumed that i never disturbed their main rooting system.

Hope these 2 plants survived my experiment! 

GBBD - January 2017

It's new Year GBBD! The first post of GBBD for 2017!

The flower of single Wrightia look so pure in white!

I got this flower seeds from a blogger friend "http://mypottedgarden.blogspot.my/"! When I sowed the seeds, nothing happened! So after sometimes I throw the whole pot with the soil at the sugarcane plant area. Surprisingly the little seeding emerge and grow to flower!

 My favorite spot of garden! The ever flowering Costus!

Mussaenda white flower! They have little orange star shape flower too! I never realise about it all this while! How ignorant am I!

Marigold flower in yellow! They do not have good smell. No wonder it's called "bunga tahi ayam" or "chicken poop" in Malay language! But they do have pretty flowers!

Cape honey suckle after light shower! They stand strong!

Adenium continuously flowering without fail!

It's raining now after long period of hot season! I'm happy to welcome the rain!

Banana - again!

This is second banana tree fruits. The first plant's banana was harvested. Enough to share with family and friends. The trunk was chopped and shared too! Such a useful plant!

Another view! I'm not sure but this type of banana tend to grow huge and tall! 

The banana flowers have be harvested last week. Cooked and eaten. I forgot to take the photo!

I have 3 tall banana trees and 2 plantlets.

Growing bananas are really good! All parts are useful and most of them can be eaten! The trunk, flowers and fruits are edible. The leaves are trademark of Indian food! We eat on banana leaves! It serve as a plate of special occasion especially!

Spinach

Snails are making a "come back" in my little garden!  I just sowed spinach seeds few weeks back and they are growing now. Does egg shell prevent them?

I hope snails don't find the way to this bed. My first successful attempt with red spinach!
