Hi Malar, Would you feel better by imagining that you happily and willingly fed the hungry monkey? After all, we human have been clearing forests and they have trouble finding food.
Fyi, I have also lost longan, mangoes, dragon fruit and papayas to human.
So sad to hear about the monkey theft. I hope you learn how to build some kind of netting to safeguard your precious tomatoes which will be even more special if they are your first harvest. When we had mango trees in my old house, even human beings steal the mangoes and damage the branches when we were at work. That's the problem when we have something that's good to eat.
So sorry for the loss ..., there is no monkey here in Putrajaya. But i put cage on veggies because neighbours cat loves to climb onto pots and leave their poo....

Malay kadazan girl : Yes, they are very smart! this big monkey know which tomato is ripe and which is not. It doesn't damage the plant!
Bangchik: My neighbour's cat like to leave to poo too. Usually i will cover the soil with dry leaves or egg shells. The rough ground make them unhappy! hahaha....
Probably put food in a different location and let them and so they might not disturb your garden.. But it might make it worst too.. Monkeys ranksack the garbage bins around my neighbourhood as most of them migrate from Batu Caves time to time. So much so, we only throw the garbage when the garbage truck passes by.
You have to built very sturdy fence and heavy cover on top. Monkey are very smart...they find a way to get to your tomotoes.
